Dynamips/Dynagen NET files for IPX SP workbooks

Filed under: CCIE, CCIE SP, dynagen, dynamips — 21500 @ 6:17 pm

Another item to scratch from my “to do” list. I built them before the Vol2 and Vol3 merge and not sure what changed to the topologies if any. If you are using the post-merge workbook I ‘assume’ that you will need to switch between the two .net files depending on the lab.

Here they are:
Dynamips / Dynagen NET file for IPexpert SP workbook vol1 and vol3
Dynamips / Dynagen NET file for IPexpert SP workbook vol2

Note they were built on linux, which gave me the best results, therefore to use them on MS, you’ll need to edit the file and change the directories e.g /dyn/images/ to c:\dyn\images\

Please leave a comment if you find a bug.

  1. Hello Antonie,

I have looked at the files.
Now ipx has only 2 volumes 1 & 2. Is it possible to use the file “IPexpert SP workbook vol2″ provided by you in this post for all the 10 labs in the Vol2 as per new edition by ipx.

    Regards,
    Vignesh

  2. I have not seen the new vol2 workbooks, but know that they merged vol2 and vol3. Those workbooks used two different topologies, therefore I had two .net files. They should still work, but you’ll have to choose which .net file to use based on the vol2labX topology. A quick general check is to see with the topology needs an ATM switch.

I am guessing that the different topologies will cause extra headaches for anyone using the new merged vol2 workbook and I doubt they will put any work into it seeing that SP is getting a blueprint change soon.

  3. Thanks Antonie. I noticed from the vol2 .net files that they do not have entries for Switches.
Do you use real switches for that and is that the reason you have not provided any mappings for Switches in the .net file?

  4. There is a router [cat1] with a 16 port module. Although I spent a lot of time getting the topology to work with real switches, I soon discovered this was overkill, so i went back to the dynamips router with a 16 port switch module

  5. Thanks for the clarification Antonie. The IPX diagram was showing 4 swithces but in your .net file it is only switch so just got confused. I hope the Vol2 workbook does not care for switching concepts and that is the reason I think you have made the .net just with a single switch. Is my understanding correct?

  6. Vignesh, are you using the vol2 workbook that includes the vol3 labs?

  7. yes Antonie..I am using Vol2 workbook that got Vol3 merged. In newer version 1-5 labs are from Vol3, 6-10 are from vol2.

  8. Thanks Vignesh, that makes sense, cause the Vol3 were great labs to start with. Personally I rate them good labs to practice before the lab as well.

Ok, for the first 1-4 labs will then use vol3 topology. Since lab5 from vol3 used the same topology as vol2 I think 5-10 would be based on the vol2 topology.

Thanks for clearing that up. P.s while I have your attention, thanks for the info regarding Belair hotel in bangalore. This time I booked there :D

  9. Thanks for providing the .net files. Many of my friends stayed there in Belair and they said Hotel Guys arrange you cab(Pickup/drop from Airport),good internet connection.I think you will be having a good stay there.Prepare well. All the best my friend. After my discussion with other people who attended SP, they recommend to take INE onlineBootcamp. Out of those 3 labs from Bootcamp, try to do first 2 labs and IPX Vol2 lab6(new version). If you have any question please send out a mail to EdBalow.http://cciedreamer.blogspot.com/2009/11/how-to-get-from-r-to-sp.html
